"Border Art is a small business that has grown out of my interest in local history. I grew up in Carlisle near the England - Scotland border and from an early age I was fascinated by its extraordinary story.

Only a few hundred yards from our house were the remains of the largest military camp on the Roman Wall.
|
|
|
The city had been beseiged and conquered countless times and Mary Queen of Scots had been a prisoner in its castle. Walter Scott had been married in its Cathedral and it had been occupied by Bonnie Prince Charlie during the Jacobite rebellion in 1745.

|
The most recent Arthurian research has suggested that it was highly probable that Carlisle was in fact "Camelot". But that is another story......

I also have a passion for maps of any kind. I cannot explain this at all but one day I decided to create a map, with the help of a local artist Gill Humphreys. This would concentrate on the families and history of the wonderful Border region that was on my doorstep.

The result was The Border Reivers Map. We then progressed naturally north into Scotland and as my ancestors were mainly from Ireland a third map was finished late in 1998.
|
|
|
The maps are really for people who, like myself, love to know where they have come from. And if their interest in History is aroused I would urge them to visit these beautiful areas.

There isn't time or space to even begin to tell you how much there is to discover. You would literally, in certain areas, have History under your feet."

 I had searched for a map that included family name information but also had artistic form. Your map had both. I really liked the celtic borders and the mixture of colours. Shipping and delivery were perfect!
